Redefining Human Design Definitions

Juliette Stapleton emphasizes the importance of not taking Human Design definitions at face value, as they are interpreted by individuals and can be limiting. She encourages readers to develop their own empowering interpretations through personal experience and experimentation.

Personal Examples of Reframing

Juliette shares her experience as a Projector, needing to redefine “waiting for invitations” to resonate with her. She also discusses her Splenic Authority and how it guides her decisions through unemotional knowing, even when illogical.

Strategy, Authority, and Self-Absorption

Following your Strategy & Authority is a map, not a set of rules, that guides you to the right places. She reframed her 1/3 profile’s introspective nature, often seen negatively as self-absorption, into a valuable ability to process information internally and offer unique insights.

This is a very important message to me:

Stop taking what you read about your Human Design at face value; otherwise, instead of re-aligning yourself energetically, you will destroy your self-confidence mentally…

The Human Design System is developed and interpreted by humans, who each add their own language (based on their own design) to it. So, every Human Design teacher brings their own flavour, their own understanding, and of course, if they are the ones developing the system, there is a danger of taking every definition literally and feeling far less than happy about what it suggests or describes. Sounds familiar?

Even when discovering Human Design feels like a permission to be you, which indeed it is, there are some question marks that naturally arise when you start going into the details.

Listen, I am also one of those people. I have my own interpretation of what I learn, and I go so deep to look for the bottom line, because at that surface level, I felt some definitions felt constrictive. But when I delved into, observed in action, and experienced the actual mechanics of these elements, only then could I find the angle, the flavour that felt massively encouraging and empowering for me. This is my mission and my goal. I want to empower you to do the same.

This means your unique and individual experience of what Human Design ambassadors describe might feel like it is being expressed in different words than those given. Read this again to let it sink in.

You might need to come up with your own way to describe it in order to feel empowered by it.

I believe the Human Design experiment is about raising awareness of what everything feels and means to you in your own human life experience.

Sometimes, it means redefining definitions, instead of trying to “fit” into them.

My personal examples:

I had to reframe several Human Design definitions to find a genuine resonance with them. For example, as a Projector, my strategy is to wait for invitations. Both “waiting” and “invitations” needed to be deeply felt, experienced, and interpreted, based on my Human Design experiment, in a way that feels correct and empowering.

The keyword here is “experiencing.” You observe, follow your strategy (or not), and watch how things unfold. In hindsight, analyze what went right or wrong. Adjust if necessary. Decommit from agreements that you entered into incorrectly. The next time, you will make a conscious decision based on your Authority, backed up by your personal experience.

Waiting is so much more than what we think waiting is; plus, it is not a passive process like the first idea of it suggests.

An invitation is not always a formal one; it can also be an energetic pull towards something, like an area to study or what product to create for your clients. I have reframed what “waiting for an invitation” feels like and what it involves; in fact, the invitations are literally everywhere, and there is always something or someone that pulls us in.

In fact, I recently had this realization confirmed in Ra Uru Hu’s quote shared by a Human Design page on Facebook, where he said that, “Projectors are constantly receiving invitations”, and he stressed that Projectors are waiting for CORRECT invitations. Ooh, that is a big clarification! Huge!

How do we know what is correct?

This is where we follow our Authority – the inner guidance for most, or a process of waiting it out, or talking it out with trusted sounding boards for others.

My Splenic Authority is a “weird” one; well, initially, it feels that way. I think everyone’s first experience with their decision-making authority feels weird. The Splenic awareness is a primal kind of sense, like an animal instinct, what is healthy, what is not. It also governs all sorts of fears, like the fear of the past, the future, the unknown, and ultimately of futility and death. So it can act as a warning when it senses danger, often in physical manifestations, like stiffness in the neck or a metallic taste in your mouth.

The positive knowing is also a very different experience. It is not always physical, although occasionally, if some big dream comes true, just moments before it happens, I feel a flutter in my chest, like a trapped butterfly.

However, that’s rare, and it’s just one observation. This is why it feels weird – it’s completely non-emotional. There is no excitement that comes with knowing something is correct. It is just that – unemotional knowing.

And sometimes, completely illogical. I just know this is a yes for me, and I need to take action on it. Like proposing to my third husband Jim, just 11 months from becoming a widow after 19 years of solid marriage. It was completely illogical; mentally, I would say it was a wrong thing to do, but my inner guidance knew it was something I HAD to do. It was my next era, my next “experience” – something that I need to learn from. So I did it.

If I allowed my mind to step in with all those logical reasons, I could have missed out on having someone in my life who is eternally devoted to me; that is a rare find. If I were wrong, cracks would have already appeared – and quickly. But since we are “ploughing through,” I believe this was the correct decision, and at the time, my whole body just knew it.

Following your Strategy & Authority and living your design (experimenting with it) is not a set of rules as such, just a map that, when followed, brings you to all the right places.

Another definition I had to reframe in a very personal way was around having a self-absorbed personality.

My 1/3 profile means I am designed to be introspective, that my mind and focus are turned inwards. It is like I am locked in a never-ending loop – the processing of information and life around me, and then sharing what I am finding out through my experiences. Only by trusting this process can the truth be revealed to me, can my insights and – often quite against the grain – opinions and perspectives be shared.

To say someone is self-centered is commonly used as an insult. It has a negative connotation according to societal norms. But since I discovered that the norms, cultural, societal, family traditions, and work ethics are rooted so deeply in the conditioning, with an agenda to strip us of our individuality, my perception of so many definitions has changed.

Being self-centered is about the mechanics of how the energy flows – the world around is literally getting processed internally, and therefore, the focus is always turned within. And through that mental and energetic process, I get to see things that are hidden to those whose focus is on the outside, simply because they are too distracted.

There is a role and a purpose in such design, and I am grateful and humbled to be gifted with such ability. This role allows me, as a 1/3, to process and share what I see, so that others get offered a solid insight on what is reliable and trustworthy, and what is just a puff of smoke.

Ra Uru Hu, in his series on profiles, said that most people want to know what works, but the world has a dualistic nature (black/white, day/night good/bad) and people need to also be aware of what doesn’t work, to avoid mistakes and time-wasting – which makes those with 1/3 profile extremely valuable to the collective. So, call me self-centered – I take it as a compliment!

My message for you today is: do not buy into the words that make you feel small or wrong.

Seek what those words mean for you, and then…

RISE.
