Between 2017 and 2021, I built my Facebook organic marketing expert reputation on running a very effective 11-day Live Video Challenge. It was not just effective in terms of conversions into clients for me. That was good. But where it was much more effective was helping my participants break through the fear of being on camera and finally discovering the advantages of going live.

Apart from the expanded range of opportunities to create live video events with ease, one of the benefits was, of course, live interaction with viewers – a single most magical opportunity to create a connection with someone you never met or seen by merely addressing them directly from the screen. Making them feel special, building that intimate relationship there and then. I saw so many super-successful coaches using this small but powerful tactic to turn their viewers into devoted followers. I myself experienced the impact when John Assaraf, someone I followed so passionately at the time, mentioned my name on his livestream and how incredible it felt. It made me feel SEEN (what else does a Projector want, right?)

On top of that, Facebook encouraged producing live videos, giving them more reach in the newsfeed over a regular uploaded video. And all of a sudden, announced on the 19th February 2025, Facebook has decided to start deleting all livestreams after 30 days from the posted date. What a shocking U-turn!

If you have any important, valuable trainings you ever delivered live on Facebook that you want to keep, you need to go and download it now (you can re-upload it to YouTube to keep it if you want). The key here now and frankly always before has been to understand what is the advantage of going live versus uploading a prerecorded video. So, let me briefly lay out the benefits:

Benefits of Live Video:

Real-Time Interaction:

Live videos allow you to have direct, two-way communication with your audience through comments, live polls, and Q&A. Personally, I have always used Ecamm live as a streaming tool because it made interaction and comments so easy to bring up onto the screen. But even streaming with a phone, the cool part was that you could see who was joining, say hello, ask and answer questions. It felt safe for the viewers because they did not have to be live on a call, like Zoom. They could be just watching and interacting. It is actually a very enjoyable way to engage (I am speaking as a user here, not even as a creator).

I never used polls and other fancy features, but I saw those who did, and indeed it was fun. They definitely not only grabbed my attention but also stayed in my memory so much more than thousands of other videos I watched. Yet, this could only be successful when the audience knew in advance about the live stream, so there were viewers who took the time and had an intention to attend, watch and interact.

Spontaneous lives did not have a similar success. With the same creators with those same audiences, impromptu lives would hardly get any prominent live views, which again means less engagement with any fancy features or live interaction (not everyone actually interacts even when they watch a live stream, no matter how the creator tries to inspire them to comment.)

This brings me to the conclusion that if you want to have a live event streamed on social media, you better promote the heck out of it in advance and even offer some bonus benefits of joining you on that live. When a person joins intentionally – this is the first indication that they recognise you as a guide and are open to at least interacting with reactions or comments as a form of conversation with you.

You do not have to be a Projector to require recognition (although you may just as well be a Generator type with tons of Projected channels in your design), so inviting people to join you on your livestreams will feel better as you know they indicate that recognition by the sheer fact that they showed up. Going live at a pre-promoted social media event can also feel a bit safer for you than inviting people to join you on a Zoom call, as there is a still “distance” between you and those watching, and nobody can suddenly interrupt or distract you with their cat passing by their camera. You can also finish whenever you decide – giving you more sense of control and security!

Zoom calls are invaluable when you intend to start an actual conversation, perhaps showcase your expertise through coaching or guiding or giving any other advice directly to a person.

Higher Engagement & Algorithm Boost

Social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok prioritize live streams, meaning they’ll push your content to more viewers for increased exposure. But with Facebook’s 30-day longevity, this can mean creating content that you do not rely on “working for you while you sleep.”

What I mean is that you can absolutely do a series of livestreams as or as part of your launch, a challenge, a series of masterclasses or delivering a short program with 30-day access to replays, knowing that those who missed the actual lives still have plenty of time to consume, learn, and binge while you are nudging them to the next step.

If it is a program you are delivering live, you can absolutely download the videos afterwards and reupload them again – uploaded video files will not be deleted. This new Facebook rule only applies to posts with livestreams.

Authenticity

Being unscripted and raw, live videos resonate with audiences who appreciate genuine, unpolished content. Of course, you get to be authentic on prerecorded videos, too. I actually try to record my videos in one take. I click record and just go with my talk; my aim is to come across as real and authentic more than polished and structured, as it is raw and real and creates that true connection.

These raw live streams are great as part of a strategy where you could go live at a specific time of the day (for live interaction). Again, let your audience know in advance that these lives are happening at a certain time if you want people to pop on and watch.

Also, the secret here is that sometimes it takes a good few “lonely” lives before people start following you on a regular basis. So do not take “crickets” personally; in fact, do not create content so that “people can engage.” It is a dangerously wrong intention that can leave you feeling unseen, unwanted and hurt even  – create content to express your light and what you see/have to share.

Exclusive Content Feeling:

Live video often gives viewers the impression they’re part of something special and happening in the moment, increasing urgency and excitement. And this part is true. Knowing that what you see is happening in real time creates that deeper connection. Livestreams can be a great opportunity to showcase anything you may want others to just watch – techniques, exercises, all sorts of screen share walkthroughs, product unboxing even, maybe unboxing your new book??? (Wink-wink, nudge-nudge…)

Do you have a daily practice, a meditation, a mantra or a tapping technique you love? Go live on that social platform you chose to show up every day at the same time for 2 minutes just doing it live, and in your call to action, invite your viewers to join you every day at that time. These kinds of lives do not need to be saved forever as they are aimed at building relationships with doing things together. How perfect if you have a strong individual circuitry in your chart. Do it for you, and let them watch.

But be aware of your expectations, especially if you are a 4th line person (Opportunist theme around the expectation of reciprocity) or Tribal circuitry. Just because you do something for others does not mean they have to do anything for you in return. I mean, you cannot completely change your nature, but you can be aware of the feelings and thoughts around not getting anything back and lovingly ignore them.

You see, Human Design is all about mechanics, but we have to live in this 3d Material world. So what helps us succeed here is not to fully commit to your Design as is – it is simply not sustainable – but to tweak your mindset to accept what can be a limitation on the path of your success. Understand that although naturally, you feel there should be something in return for all your efforts, it is just a feeling, and in order to succeed, you need to be aware of the feeling. Do not let it take over and force you to give up before you create something substantial in your business and life!

Benefits of Pre-Recorded Video:

Polished & Professional

Pre-recorded videos can be edited for better quality, including special effects, improved sound, overlays and branding. Some experts would add scripts here. I disagree. I think that scripts may have a good place in some forms of training, but to build a connection with your viewer, you must find a place where you sound more natural and can allow deviation from the topic. Perhaps tell a story or crack a joke if you feel like it.

The most memorable teachers and trainers in my life were actually super charismatic people who broke the traditional delivery rules quite consistently. And I LOVED them (as well as all the other students in the room).

I would also love to warn you against over-producing your recorded videos, especially if you are doing it because of the feeling that you yourself are “not enough.” It can be tempting but also sucks so much time, even when you are techy- like me. I love video editing and sound production. I have experience with it, but I also know the energy levels that I get access to as a Projector.

I know that while I will enjoy spending 3 hours embellishing my video, I also take that time from something else much more important – often basic priorities, like proper nutrition (I forget to eat when I am in the zone). And the value of my video is never about a fancy overlay. It is ALL about what I actually said. So, if we just look at the bottom line, all that post-production is more about vanity and insecurity, not real quality!

Reusability, Repurposing & Consistency Across Platforms

You can share the same pre-recorded content across multiple platforms, giving your message a larger reach and longer lifespan. I love this point, especially with all my video conversations. I record them once, and then I can post those files everywhere, saving me energy and time and yet becoming discoverable through multiple channels, video and audio – as I distribute my video through Spotify, which then sends the audio to multiple audio podcast platforms automatically.

Most importantly, also make it available in your “castle” – your website as a main hub for creating a nurturing experience for those who are somewhat serious about working with you but still in their research stage.

Accessibility and Subtitles:

What I love about prerecorded videos is the ability to change the playback speed. Even when it is not an option in the player settings, I am using a Speed Controller browser add-on so I can save time and consume all the main points in a shorter time. And as someone who speaks (and writes) “marathon style” – I mean I go long expressing my points – allowing my viewers to choose a faster speed is a huge advantage. In fact, I will often point it out to them to increase the playback speed.

One funny side-effect is me getting completely impatient with watching myself or those I often listen to at a higher speed talk at a normal speed, say on a live stream or a webinar! Ha!

Flexibility in Scheduling

Pre-recorded content allows for strategic posting at optimal times rather than relying on you being live. This is an advance because you can record when inspired, but also the real key here is to have the discipline to be consistent, which means you have to uncover “secrets to activating yourself” as well as the art of allowing yourself NOT to do it if you are emotionally or mentally charged in a bad way.

Another advantage is batch recording. For example, with my podcasts, I often have concentrated dates where I record my guests, then concentrated weeks for production and then schedule episodes to come out once a week, giving me an opportunity to promote each upcoming episode to my audience and email list.

Flexibility is one of my top values and pillars that my business is founded on, but it also means a bigger challenge in getting things done, because sometimes I can use the flexibility as an excuse to postpone and reschedule what really needs to get done. Being your own boss is probably the hardest challenge of them all.

Final Thoughts

It is not really a matter of what is better, live video or prerecorded. In fact, comparing them directly is kind of wrong.  The goal here is to understand what format suits you at what time and for what purpose.

When you laser focus on what you want to achieve, the choice of format becomes so much clearer. And here is when your Human Design can also give you more freedom in making that choice. For example, you may feel like you “do not like people” (recognise yourself 3/5s?), and so going live to a completely open audience can feel very “unsafe”, and you will resist it or feel uneasy even if you overcome that resistance. And yet, going live within your inner circle can feel so fun  – you can find yourself doing months and months of daily lives with ease! At the end of the day, that audience is curated, and you know for a fact these people are “your people”.

I was kidding about 3/5s, most people “do not like people” in my experience. Very rarely do I meet someone who feels at ease being exposed to the wide world out there. And yet, as one of the most introverted people myself, I am quite happy doing a live stream as a guest on a show, for example – because this exposure presents me as an expert, raises my status and adds credibility, so there is a very good valuable reason to do it, and I see more benefits in it than disadvantages of such visibility activity (which – except for the odd issue with time zones that can perhaps affect the “convenience” of the live stream – I cannot think of at all).

Understanding your energy flow map is key to understanding why you may resist certain forms of video and how to change your perspective or manage your feelings in a way that they do not stand in the way of your success. I know I am repeating myself here, but the whole point of discovering your Human Design is to permit you to be you.

And if that means understanding that it is because of your Tribal circuitry you feel unsupported by those you bend backwards for – this is giving you the freedom to do what you need to do with the awareness that not everyone is designed this way, so you can accept this fact and allow them to be what they are – without getting fixated on lack of reciprocity.

My personal biggest revelation was about being “enough” with so many self-absorbed and self-centred elements in my design, and especially realising that it is the Separatist trajectory of my Fear motivation that makes me reluctant to teach what I discover – not in a traditional way but in my own way, through sharing my unique perspectives and opinions and realizing that this is specifically how I create my legacy, and it is not about passing some universal through, but my own intuitive understanding of how this world – and all of us in it – operate.

With that realisation, choosing my activities and how to express myself through which platforms and activities became so simple to decide.
