How to Capture Ideas on the Go
I want to introduce you to a wonderful tool and a really cool offer today.
One of the biggest questions and sore topics I discuss with many clients is how they are full of ideas while driving to the gym, taking a shower, or walking the dog. Yet, when they come home to start their workday, their minds go blank.
I am guilty of this myself.
Lacking inspiration when “working on your business”
For a long time, I relied on inspiration in the moment when I was “working” on my business. But the truth is, we cannot schedule our inspiration. We can only hope to get inspired and activated because that’s when we channel the unique, authentic energy that makes us magnetic.
If I’m not activated, I’m just producing noise. It’s okay if you have to write a neutral email with details about your next master class. You don’t need to be excited about it. In fact, you can generate that with AI. But when you have something important to say to your audience, that’s what magnetic messaging is about. It’s not about second-guessing what others need to hear; it’s about sharing what you have to say.
Often, these ideas don’t come when we try “to work on our business” in our office. There’s a lot of research on this, I think I heard it on Mel Robbins’ podcast about habituation and reactivating creativity. I added the links below.
When something is new, it excites us, and we become creative. But doing the same thing in the same environment leads to habituation. That’s why you might have a beautiful workspace, yet sometimes sit down and feel blank.
In these situations, you’ve become habituated to your environment. There are suggestions to reignite yourself by occasionally changing your environment. Grab a laptop and work in a coffee shop for a day. Not every task requires creativity, but for copy creation or product development, you need that spark.
You can tap into your creativity by creating an environment where it can happen. For me, busy places work well. My favorite coffee shop, now closed, was in a shopping mall. The table I liked was near an escalator, and the energy of people passing by energized my creativity.
In my Human Design, my environment is Valleys, which means I can thrive creatively while people-watching and being in the middle of information moving, online and offline (people carry their energetic information in their aura).
Another way to boost creativity is through different sensory experiences. If you’re not feeling creative, try grounding yourself with a glass of cold water or different surfaces. Creativity happens when we’re grounded in the moment. How effective this is for me personally, I don’t know.
I work from home, and my office is usually used for content development, which can in itself “activate” me.
The secret isn’t divine inspiration; it’s discipline.
Dedicate time to work on your content. Capture your ideas whenever they come. It’s more challenging in the shower, but with dedication, you can even have your phone there. Dry your hand and talk into your phone.
That’s what started working for me. I began capturing ideas on the go. My ideas often come when I walk, listening to audiobooks or music. This activates me. Some people prefer meditation or specifically activating frequency music or beats. Find what works for you. Maybe you need complete silence. Your Human Design can offer insights into your creative environment.
On your phone, there are different ways to create content. I tried apps like Otter AI, which transcribes speech, but the block of text was hard for me to work with due to dyslexia. I also left voice messages on WhatsApp, but importing files was cumbersome.
Then I discovered Letterly on AppSumo in 2023. It’s a fantastic app where you can talk into it, recording a voice note and it transcribes your note, as well as lets you download the audio, if you want to use it as a piece of content also.
Letterly has an AI element that helps clean up the text, removing repetitions and parasite words while maintaining your style and tone. I’m not for using AI to generate all your content, as it lacks authenticity. But AI can help summarize and extract key points from your text. My writing style is conversational, and I instruct AI to clean up my text without changing my voice.
AI-generated content is often generic, and people can spot it. It can harm your reputation and trustworthiness as an expert.
Now, let me give you the gift I promised. Letterly is back on AppSumo for a lifetime deal. It works on one device. I first got it in 2023 and used it to write my second book. I recorded my book as a video and used Letterly for transcription. Now, I have a license for my computer.
I wanted to send an email to my list about it, but then I thought, why not record this voice note? Actually demonstrate it in action?
Capture your ideas on the go while driving, walking the dog, or shopping. Letterly is your friend.
The best news is that you can now speak for 90 minutes straight – that is 1.5 hours!!!
A few weeks ago, I recorded a 25-minute note while walking my dog, which gave me five or six different, separate topics for blog posts and emails. I can then develop these ideas further when working on your business.
Treat your work as a project
Writing an article involves more than just writing. It’s a whole project, and discipline is crucial. You need to commit to developing, editing, publishing, and promoting your content.
I use Trello to manage my blog articles, with checklists for each step that keep my work focused on the whole process, step by step. So I do not end up with tons of unfinished and unpublished content. Each idea gets developed, written, published, promoted, and repurposed – only then is it considered done. And it can be done all in one sitting, when you have a checklist to follow.
You can work with this however you want, but the bottom line is this – capturing your ideas is paramount, whenever they come.
The link behind the button below is to the Letterly app on AppSumo. It’s an affiliate link, so I’ll probably get two bucks from each sale. Essentially, you will buy me a coffee for inspiring you to capture your ideas.
You can buy as many licenses as you want. Remember, the license is for life and per device.
I have one for my phone and one for my computer. Sometimes you get inspired in front of your computer but don’t want to type. That’s me – today, I’ve talked for about 23 minutes and already have this piece of content. Another 20 minutes and this article is ready to publish. Another 10 minutes to send an email to my list. No excuses.
Even though it is a Saturday and I just got some time for myself while my husband took the dog out. I ended up with all this content! Thanks to Letterly.
I hope you enjoy this. Grab that piece of software. It’s an “offer you can’t refuse.” because it is just too good to miss. I hope you’ve also enjoyed my little voice note to you.
